Day 1 of 21 Days To BRAVE: “The To-Don’t List”

https://hannahkateclothing.com/wp-content/uploads/11-In-Over-My-Head-Crash-Over-Me-Live-1-2.m4a

I have a feeling a lot of you may be like me. New Year’s Resolutions can be a nightmare for me bc it feels like one more endless pursuit of perfection or just an endless quest to always BE BETTER.

WHAT IF..we all took a break from that hamster wheel and instead came up with a list of the things we could carve away, the things that don’t really matter…the things that pressure us so that we can concentrate on what causes us to flourish instead.

That’s what Shauna Niequist did, according to Darling Magazine. She made the opposite of a Resolution List or To-Do List. She made a To-Don’t List and we can make one too.

I’m going to include my To Don’t List here + then check out the Darling Magazine article that includes bestselling author Shauna Niequist’s list! You don’t want to miss it!

Andrea’s To Don’t List:

  1. My office can be messy + unorganized. Instead of feeling shame + embarrassment over this, I’m going to do my best to keep it from getting out of control, but receive help from my awesome team when they offer to help me organize. It’s just not my strength, but that doesn’t mean beauty isn’t created there.
  2. I don’t always know my children’s plans or what classes they are taking. My husband knows more in this area than I do and this has been a source of shame for me bc it makes me feel like a “bad mom”. No more!! I have suffered from the “working mom’s guilt” at times even though I am very close and connected to my kids. It ends now.
  3. I am not best friends with everybody. Owning a business takes a lot of time and can feel lonely sometimes. Every year in the past I have put a lot of pressure on my husband and myself for us to do more with friends. This year, I’d like to focus on the wonderful friends I do have and on my wonderful husband.
  4. I am not very good with my hands. I was never the mom who could french braid hair. I cannot sew on a button even though I own and design a children’s clothing line. I cannot draw or write neatly. It’s ok. Obviously I don’t have to be, so I need to let that one go. We can all find our niche.
  5. I don’t go to the grocery store much. My husband does a lot around the house and I mean A LOT. It embarrasses me sometimes, because it makes me feel like a bad or inadequate mom. That’s stopping now. What a blessing that he can do that and that he actually doesn’t mind. I’m not going to let my own insecurities get in my way anymore.
