When It Rains.

I love the warmer weather. Spring has brought the wildflowers, outdoor events, the dreams of summer vacation with no school… but my allergies come when it rains.

The good is always mixed with the not so good and it reminds me of a day not so long ago when we had big plans and then a big rain came and washed them away.

Life is like a cookie recipe where all the ingredients end up with a delicious dessert, but if you took the baking soda or the salt and ate that alone, it wouldn’t be so enjoyable.

Personally, I don’t like it when it rains on my “parade” {my plans, my life, my desires} because I like… to be happy and comfortable.

When it rains — When it “rains” on my life (and yes, sometimes it pours!) I’m not 100% of the time thinking I’ll go dance in it! We read plenty of blogs or quotes about happy-happy, choose joy, attitude and all that. Dance in the rain, huddle under an umbrella together because then the rain isn’t so bad…

It’s all good stuff, but  maybe you’re normal like me and you wish the parade would just-for-goodness-sake, not be interrupted once more.

Or maybe I’m not normal because I actually googled, “How to prepare for rain in your life,” and you know what? There is actually an article that gives 28 ways to prepare for an actual rain shower. For reals.

So I got to thinking about the “rain” in life that messes up life, it hurts, it’s uncomfortable, it’s suffering. I realized I wish I had a list of 28 ways to be prepared for it so that I could indeed dance right through and keep the joy when I ain’t seein’ the rainbows.

The cool, wonderful thing is is that we don’t need 28 points on a list, there is just one point. {sigh of relief since 28 is too much to do when you’re a full time mom.}

That one thing is faith. To make it through the “rain” in life we must have faith that rain is part of the ingredients that are making us the person that God intends us to be. Sunshine is awesome, but without the rain, the sun dries up most of life. It’s the combination that sustains us, creates us, develops us and grows us. I don’t have to dance in the rain about that, but I can accept it, be content with it, and have faith that the bigger picture I can’t always see, is indeed always for my good.

When it rains on my life, I can be peaceful in my soul.

Maybe you are having a rainy day. Hang in there. Have faith. The rain might be hard, but it’s gonna grow you and make you into something like an amazing spring wildflower.
